Each function will take place inside of your web management portal, Quext.io, to manage access to common areas and buildings. Follow these steps to adjust automatic access for specific groups (management, staff, maintenance, vendors, residents, etc.) when they are added to your Quext Smart Home system.
These are especially useful when using devices specific to access control (PDK, Butterfly, Brivo, etc.).
Manage Global Group Access
Select the access page, then the groups tab.
Choose the desired group to give location access to: Managers, Staff, Maintenance, Vendors or Residents.
Click the three-dot menu, then edit group.
Click next, then either:
choose the location(s) this group should have access to, or
de-select the location(s) this group should not have access to.
NOTE: Once added to the Quext system, all group members will automatically gain access to the chosen locations. If you wish to restrict access for any individual, manage their access on an individual basis.
Click next, then submit.
Repeat for remaining groups, as needed.
Manage Individual Access - Group Access Turned Off
Does your Community allow residents to rent out common areas? Or are there times when you don’t want a full group to have access to a location, but you do need an individual (or two or three!) have access? Don’t worry--Quext allows for this, too!
Go to the People page, choose either the Staff or Residents tab, and tap the desired user’s name.
Click authorizations.
NOTE: Here, you’ll see a list of all of the current locations this person has access to--units, common areas, etc.--whether they are active or inactive.
By default, each location is toggled on, so the user is able to use their Quext-issued keys to access these areas.
To add a new location to this person’s authorizations list, click the three-dot menu and choose add location.
Select the location(s) you’d like to add, then click save.
A newly created user will automatically have access to all locations listed in the user’s corresponding group (resident, management, staff, maintenance, vendor).
If you ever need to remove this access again, simply select that location from the authorizations page and toggle the physical access off.
A resident whose status is Pending Move-In will show authorizations as toggled as on, with an Inactive status. Once the resident’s move-in is executed, the status will show as Active, and the resident’s Quext-issued keys will work to each location.
Create a Custom Group
TIP: Create any needed custom schedule beforehand, so that you can select it during this process. Need a refresher on how to create a schedule? Click here!
Select the access page, then the groups tab.
Click the three-dot menu and choose add new group.
Create a name for the group, and an optional description. Choose whether you’d like for this group to be active, inactive or to have a delayed activation, for which you’d need to choose the activation date & time.
Choose the location(s) that the group should have access to. Then, choose the default schedule.
Click next.
Choose which user(s) should be added to this group. These can be individual people, entire groups, or, specific units (residents who move into that unit will automatically be added to this group).
Once you’ve double-checked all the information, click submit.
To edit, activate or deactivate, or delete this group, select the group and click the three-dot menu and choose the desired function.
