Audience: Installers & Maintenance Staff Goal: Physically configure existing Allegion locks to accept Wallet Access (NFC) signals.
Wallet Access is an add-on feature that must be enabled on every individual lock. This guide explains how to enable NFC on Schlage Control, NDEB, LEB, and Reader Controllers (RCs).
⚠️ Rollout Warning: Do not enable the Wallet Access feature for residents until ALL locks have been physically configured and tested. If you enable the feature in the Quext platform before completing the steps below, residents will add keys to their wallets that the locks are not yet ready to recognize, resulting in immediate support tickets.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pre-Installation Checklist
Before heading to the first unit, ensure you have:
NFC Configuration Card: A physical card commissioned by Allegion specifically for this property.
If missing, stop and contact support immediately.
Installer Credential (Test Device): Your smartphone must have the Quext app installed and an active Wallet Credential added to your Apple or Google Wallet.
You cannot test the installation without a live credential on your phone.
Access to Battery: You will need a small screwdriver or tool to remove the battery cover on unit locks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Compatibility & Operating System Requirements
Wallet access is available on most modern smartphones and wearables that support contactless payments.
iPhone: iPhone 8 or newer, running a current version of iOS with Apple Wallet
Android: NFC-enabled Android phones running Android 9 or newer with Google Wallet
Apple Watch: Apple Watch Series 4 or newer (paired with a compatible iPhone)
Android Wearables: Wear OS watches with NFC and Google Wallet support
Tip: If your phone or watch can make contactless payments, it will work for tap-to-unlock.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Prepare Your Test Device
You must verify that your own device is ready to act as a "tester."
Open the Quext mobile app on your phone.
Navigate to your user profile.
Tap Add to Wallet and follow the prompts to add the pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Verification: Open your phone’s wallet app and ensure the purple Quext pass is visible.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 2: Power Cycle the Lock
The lock must be rebooted to accept the new NFC configuration.
For Unit Locks (Control, NDEB, LEB):
Remove the battery cover on the inside of the door.
Remove one battery.
Wait 5 seconds.
Reinsert the battery.
For Reader Controllers (RCs):
Disconnect power momentarily or flip the breaker to the device.
Restore power.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 3: Scan the Configuration Card (Critical)
This step activates the NFC radio inside the lock hardware.
Time Limit: You must perform this step within 60 seconds of reinserting the battery/restoring power.
Action: Hold the NFC Configuration Card flat against the face of the lock.
Success Indicator: Listen for a beep or watch for a light flash on the lock reader.
If you do not see/hear a confirmation, remove the battery and try again immediately.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 4: Verify Handshake
Immediately test if the lock is broadcasting an NFC signal.
Action: Hold your phone (with the Installer Credential) near the lock reader.
Success Indicator: Your Wallet Pass should automatically pop up on your screen. Note: The door will likely NOT unlock yet (no green light). This is normal.
If the pass pops up: The hardware upgrade is complete. Proceed to Step 5.
If the phone does not react: The configuration scan failed. Repeat Steps 2 and 3.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 5: Sync to Enable Access
Although the lock can now "see" the wallet key, it does not yet know which keys are allowed to open the door. It needs to download the access data.
Method A: Automatic Sync (Preferred)
If the unit has a Thermostat Hub, the lock will sync automatically.
Wait 1–3 minutes, then test the lock again.
Method B: Manual Sync (No Hub)
If there is no hub, or you need immediate confirmation:
Open the Quext app on your phone.
Navigate to the specific lock you are working on.
Tap the Sync button.
Wait for the "Sync Complete" message.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 6: Final Test
Action: Tap your phone to the lock again.
Success Indicator: The Wallet Pass appears AND the lock flashes green/unlocks.
Repeat Steps 2–6 for every unit, amenity, and common area door on the property.

Troubleshooting
Phone doesn't react at all
The lock missed the configuration window. Remove the battery and scan the Configuration Card again immediately.
Phone reacts, but door flashes red/doesn't open
The NFC radio is working, but the lock hasn't synced. Perform a manual sync in the Quext app.
Watch isn't working
Ensure the Installer Credential is also synced to your watch (check your phone's Watch app settings).
